Frances Elaine Lee as she was born was well-known as an American costume designer for stage and film. She won multiple Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards.

Lee who is a costume and set designer while doing Tony Award-winning work on Broadway in the 1970s also made killer-bee suits and cone-shaped headwear for early “Saturday Night Live” sketches, helping to create some of that era’s most memorable comic moments.

Records had it that, Lee was studying painting at the University of Wisconsin, her daughter said, when she discovered her love of theater and costume design.
